The Crystal Tarot by Elisabetta Trevisan

This sumptuous treasure is the generous gift from a member – via the “I don’t love you anymore” thread on the Cartomancy forum. It arrived today in my wilderness cabin, securely packed in a very sturdy grey box, that is sure to get re-used in our household.

The deck is also known as the Tarocchi de Vetro

It could not have come at a better time, after yet another thunder storm and deluge this morning I was recuperating from one of my nasty weather triggered migraines, but just sitting there and looking at the stunningly beautiful images made my woes evaporate and fill me with joy 🙂

The mayors and courts are stunning and I was glad, that I had the time to look closely at each and every one.

Favourites?

When I just saw the Fool, I KNEW, I would love this deck.

The HP the muted colours fitted exactly how I felt this morning. Having to sit still, among the dark greens and blooming sunflowers around me. Migraines make me see everything quite a bit pixelated and that too is reflected in the image.

Temperance with vessels reminding me of Mayan pottery:)

Knave of Wands with his oversized shepherd’s staff.

Is the Queen of pentacles pregnant?

So much to see and discover!

Of course I read the deck review written by our own Le Fanu.

Excellent, thank you!

Since I am so taken by this new deck it had to have a nice pouch/ bag. I love going into my basket with bags, pull them all out and match one of them to the mood, I perceive the deck to have.

This one wanted to have a green embroidered brocade bag embellished with gold thread.

But then i remembered all the many unused gold and diamond pins and blouse needles I still have from my sister Mausi. They languish in a dark cabinet, because I only wear jewellery made by Peter and me. So I decided to see, what it would look like, to put a little something onto this bag and so give some usage to the antique jewellery Mausi used to collect.

There were 2 pieces, that volunteered for this job:

One a small pin featuring the ivory carving of a lady set in red gold with2 small diamonds, reminding me of a young female page. The other is a blouse needle, diamond encrusted stem, topped with a large grey cultured pearl also encrusted with tiny diamonds 🙂 I chose this one, because it looks a bit like the wand/ sceptre of a king.

Thus “blinged out” it was time to shuffle the deck and get ready to do my first reading with this deck.

The Cradle of the Wind is rocking

Another day another heat-wave, another migraine….

Until the meds work and I can actually see with both my eyes (instead of having “double vision), I may as well sit here and write about my card of the day.

Ace of Coins – Tarot of the Trance again.

2f11c6ecae4b0e4ece5ebba4e12de9a8

Crazy image – very befitting how I feel and what is going on in my life: I recognise roots! Rootedness – for – probably the Apple Tree. Apples speak to me of harvest, of a time of plenty and yes, plenty is happening here right now. The Orobora is eating her own tail.

Like me, like both of us. At this time of the year we are both racing around in ever tightening circles eating ourselves up while giving birth to our art and our 5 cents of wisdom, which in my case is greedily swallowed up by my clients and sometimes even used constructively, so their Apples can grow and ripen as well.

The hectic 2 sided face in the centre should remind me of a prominent figure in mythology, but with the migraine, the archetype does not come into the forefront of my mind. Instead I see myself here – the annoying double visions, me swinging my poor head hectically this way and that to keep an eye on all the swirrrrrling action around me….. The blue wings speak to me of wind. Storm to be precise and to “almost take off, but not quite” But taking off works fully against the roots, that keep me grounded!

2 of my Miahanits are Birds. A decade or 2 ago when I went on a shamanic trance journey to ask for helpand advice with the stress during the hectic summer month one of them told me, that during the summer months I must live “in the Cradle of the Wind”

This is the image of the “Cradle of the Wind” for today!

Action to be taken today:

Hold on to your Roots = stay grounded.

Eat an Apple or 2 –

Oh yes, make some children’s bracelet using up those tiny Apple beads I got from the art store!

DDU for July 25:

Daily Disaster Update – DDU for short:

1 – woke up with a nasty migraine – no wonder, after this crazzzy weekend with 2 craft shows in the stifling heat

2 – migraine meds are starting to kick in – I can see the keyboard! 🙂

3 – the phone is dead –

4 – Phone technician NO 18 is supposed to show up sometime today – to find out, what the last 17 technicians also found out – the line to Fraserburg needs repairing – it is full of water, rusted out and was hit by lightning. Canada’s  Bell Telephone however will just NOT repair it, since it costs upwards of $ 65 000 ….. as of last year’s estimate, which by now probably is at $ 75 000, not counting the time and expenses for the – so far – 18 technicians…….

5 – the car is dead. – just like yesterday after the craft show, when we wanted to pack up to get home.. A shorted out circuit drains battery

Peter re-charged the battery and disconnected it – until we can drive the car to the shop, in order to exchange it for the OTHER one, our ooooold show van, that is there now, to be fixed…..

6 – Card of the day:

Tarot of the Trance:

Tarot of the Trance 3 of Swords

Three of Swords!

2 red beasts are screaming at each other gnashing their teeth in anger and frustration. With the arrows attached to their tails they stabbed a helpless green Fish, that is bleeding out beneath them. Arrows from the waters below stab the Fish as well – in reverberation of the situation.

The cross on the hilt of the Sword  in the middle however speaks of cross-roads and choice.

The Flowers in the border speak of summer – our time of stressss, shows, hectic, difficulties coping with all of it coming over us at once without reprieve.

How very appropriate!

Pain and heartaches of all sorts, stresssss and no time to take care of the things we need to do, like make jewellery and phone clients, never mind time for relaxing and regrouping,

Actions to be taken:

Safe the Fish!!!!

It represents us, out creative flow and Energy, pierced and immobilized by all the external calamities!

Instead of rushing around to try and fix phone lines, and none working cell phones and defunct cars, sit down to meditate and tune out all the humdrum – it still will be there humdrumming this afternoon, when we are in better shape to deal with it.

Relax and decompress by writing out your frustrations in a blog post.

Done! – and feeling better! 🙂

………………………………………………………………………………..

During our very hectic summer months I like to do my daily draws with the Tarot of the Trance, because its crazzzzy colours and bizarre images very much fit and express the weird, bizarre and hectic 2 months in our life, when our business – Bearpaw Jewellery, clashes with my shamanic practice, both fighting for my precious time. In the images I see reflected the heat and humidity, that bursts forward growth in Nature and all the crazzzzy problems my “summer clients” present to me in the hope of a “magical fix”

It also points out in vibrant colours, how badly I myself need one of these so very elusive magical fixes!

Tarot and Oracle readings at local Hospice benefit event

It’s that time of year again:

I again was invited to participate in a benefit event for Hospice, to bring the cards and read for donations towards the organization.

They were holding a gifts and fashion show where the proceeds from vendor’s tables all go to Hospice Muskoka. This year I had requested a slightly larger spot away from the main action, so as to have some more privacy and not to be interrupted by announcements via the intercom and by the music provided for the event.

The library of the Bracebridge Sportsplex proved to be an ideal spot.

I also decided, to bring reinforcement: While I offered to give ~~15 minute Tarot readings, Denyse, one of my friends and students has shown an interest in reading the cards and this was her very first outing to come and help. I provided her with an extra table with a variety of Oracle decks, where the message is already written on the card, so she could let people chose from the decks, then pick out a card and either let them read their message or read it out for them.

She loved the idea, ran with it and was VERY busy in no time.

What decks did she have you ask?

Well, she had available the

I had the Greenwood Tarot,

the South West Sacred Tribes Tarot,

The Druid Craft Tarot

and the Medicine Cards

to select from and surprisingly, this time the Druid Craft deck won out as the favourite of the day. The cards are large and people can see, the images well.

The event ran from 1.00pm to 4.00 pm and I had not time for any breaks, reading none stop and still there were lots more people that would have loved a reading.

Next time – or next event – or come on out to the house…. 🙂

Back in class and loving it!

I am currently doing an on line course in curanderismo = the art and wisdom of Mexican and Mexican American Folk healers through the university of New Mexico.
I have things to read and study every day and write an exam every week.
It is about herbs, how to prepare tinctures and microdosis with herbs I only remember from when I lived part of the year in mexico 25 years ago….
There are Aztec songs and chants
and lots of different treatments using above mentioned herbs, clays and other agents…..

For the last few days it felt to me, that my daily draws with the Roots of Asia was not supporting my efforts very well.

Sooooo different world views, 2 different parts of our planet….

When using the Roots of Asia, I feel I can not give my card of the day the proper meditative attention because it is so different from where my attention is ….

I also have no time to sit with it or look things up or read my books bout Buddhist teachings….

So I think, I will try to add the cards of the “Songs for the Journey Home” Tarot to my regime of daily draws and see, how that goes 🙂

Reading, using the Songs for the Journey home Tarot:

reading Sept 5

Card 1 – How will I get along with my on line course of curanderismo = Mexican Folk healing practices from the University of New Mexico
Earth Song 7
The hands of an Elder are gently pulling apart a jumble of green plant growth to reveal a field of young plants growing in an orderly row in cultivated earth

= Out of the wild jumble of plant information I will learn to make sense and with diligent work a field of healing wisdom will grow

Card 2 -How will this new deck support my studies?
10 of Flame song:
A woman with long brown hair(me!!) is seen reading the cards of this deck for a probably young person.
In the background is a very ornate, moorish looking window beyond which a large Lotus Flower grows.

Need I say more!!
I just read, that some curandeital also read the cards for their clients – just like me…
The lotus outside may very well stand for the “Roots of Asia: Tarot and my studies about Buddhism. they are fine and will be there at a later date, while I use the opportunity at hand.

Card 3 – Will I eventually incorporate some of the things learned in the course about curanderismo into my daily shamanic practice with my patients and clients?

Earth Innocence ( Princess of Pentacles)
A very confusing and tangled image. Eventually I recognize a few arms and legs …..
A young person is climbing in a Tree that is almost swallowed up in other vegetation.

Yes, there is an abundance of information about plants and plant based treatment and I will have to surmount that and sort it all out in my head.

Many of these plants are unavailable where I live – outside of my home, but the basic concepts of curanderismo – taking time for the patients and working with what Nature provides apply everywhere on Mother Earth.

Card 4:Ultimate outcome – looking into the future = a year from now

Earth Song 9
A large pentagram is superimposed onto the image. A Mother swings her small child in the air and catches it Behind her is a field of white and pink flowers.

Somehow the Flowers immediately remind me of dense fields of Yerba Manza, although that powerful herb looks nothing like the Flowers on the image…..
This course is a “wild child”, that “flew” into my open arms and I grabbed on to it.
I am glad, that I did, I already learned LOTS.
Now is the time to seize the opportunity and the see, how this “wild child” will integrate itself into the healing garden of my established practice.

3 Cards for the Day:

The last few days before the Summer Solstice I was quite busy with the School’s Native studies program, teaching and explaining about the different local Native cultures – Mohawk and Anishinaabe – in preparation of National Aboriginal Day celebrations held here in the community on the day of the Summer Solstice.

So yesterday, when picking my cards for the day I did not much feel like using my study deck of this summer, the Roots of Asia, but rather felt I needed images, that support my current focus a bit closer. Sitting at my reading table my eyes fell onto the beautiful pouch that house my Shamanic Oracle and I pulled it out.

Shaman Oracle poch

I decided to draw 3 cards:

One card for me, for the day

The 2nd card was for L. She is a member of the local drum circle who, I have reason to suspect, has urgent and rather nasty health problems to overcome

The 3. card I drew was for the community at large.

DSCN3996

The first card for me, turned out to be The Medicine Wheel!

How very appropriate for my activities that day!

There is still a lot of un-ease between the First Nations communities and the mainly Caucasian / Western immigrant population here. Most of it stems from not knowing each other’s cultures, and the horrible atrocities committed against the First Nations People – some back in history, others quite recently. There also is a lot of guilt – riding the necks of third and fourth generation immigrant families and there is the ongoing problem with the multitude of christian churches undermining the re- upsurge of Native culture, traditions and the re-introduction of Native spiritual practices into daily life.

Recent “New Age “ practices talking of “all Indians have a medicine wheel and it looks like this and that” – – all being totally false have not helped either……

What however helps, is bringing the REAL Teachings to the children in schools and into the community. Sorting the whole mess apart and explaining what is what, what is a tradition teaching from which tribe, what are overarching pan Indian Movement teachings and what is plain and pure New Age crapppp…….

Starting with teaching the teachers…… That and giving the kids a basic idea was, what my day was all about.

G104_border

The next card, the card for L.

I drew the warrior!

That is a good card for her!

The other day while drumming at the “Grandmother drum I had gone into trance and all of a sudden saw L. Right across from me -But on her shoulders, riding her sat a humongous horrrrid Albi = illness spirit!

It was all white bloodless skin over skeletal bones, blood-red and black eyes and a mouth dripping black gue onto her while loooooong skeletal fingers with looooong, claw-like red and black nails, dripping red life blood with which this beast clawed at L’s chest.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then something happened – I do not know, what – someone tried to walk by me and somehow touched me and, shaking like an epileptic having a seizure, I fell right over onto the floor, while that nasty spirit still clutched L and grinned at me…..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????????

It took me 10 minutes to get myself together again……

In retrospect, I KNOW, I saw the spirit of breast cancer gripping her and was – and am still shaken.

Tell her???? Not tell her?????

I sensed, she felt “down and worried” – so I think / sense, she just got the news – or suspects – or….. I will see… L. was not approachable then and there and I first had to “sort out myself” and make sense of just what I had seen. This was not “asked for”, like, when I drum over a client and am supposed to “see” something…..

These situations are tough……

The Warrior and his strengths is, what she will need in the days to come……

G102_border

The card for the community was “Deer Dance”

I felt, it is pointing towards celebration and getting together to honour the First Nations cultures and also giving thanks to the Animals, Deer being the “Leader of the Animals” for the Mohawk People….

Other First Nations see Deer as a sensual being and also as a sign to achieve goals in a none aggressive manner.

Deer Dances are held during many First Nations celebrations. I felt, that this card is a good symbol expressing the deeper meaning and intentions behind the upcoming National aboriginal Day Celebrations on the Summer Solstice.
